Bikes and Scooters

As part of Brown's commitment to alternative transportation options, the University provides resources and promotes programs related to bikes and scooters.

A green alternative to driving, biking is wonderful for your health and the air you breathe.

Brown has bicycle racks in convenient places all around campus, offers bicycle registration to discourage theft, has a student group renting and repairing bikes called Bikes@Brown, and is working with various civic groups to help promote cycling in the city of Providence.

Bike Safety

If you think your bike has been stolen, contact the Brown Department of Public Safety at 401-863-3322.

To discourage theft, we highly suggest registering your bicycle with the Department of Public Safety. Additionally, U-shaped locks are an easy way to secure your bike, as cable locks are much more susceptible to cutting and facilitate theft.

Bike and Scooter Parternships

Brown University works with Spin and Bird to provide bikes and scooters throughout campus and to provide safety measures like restricting their speed on campus.

Headquartered in San Francisco, Spin is one of the leading micromobility companies. They currently operate dockless electric scooters on campuses and in cities across North America and Europe. Spin has been recognized for launching the first stationless mobility program in the United States. As a technology company that powers individual mobility for the benefit of all and strategically collaborates to reshape policy and redesign urban life, our mission is to create a world full of 15-minute cities—and to bring those cities to life by moving people freely through their streets.

Bird is passionate about vibrant communities that have less traffic, cleaner air, and safer streets. They’re working with cities and universities across the world to provide new transportation options, complement public transit systems, and invest in safety infrastructure that benefits everyone.
